According to his previous business manager, Johnny Depp net worth reached US $650 million.

And Now? Around USD 150 million😮

Even if it still amounts to a sizable sum of money, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor has a history of splurging extravagantly on anything from expensive gifts for Amber Heard to entire villages in France.

Depp has already made an effort to justify his expenditures, telling The Wall Street Journal in 2017, “It’s my money. If I want to buy 15,000 cotton balls a day, it’s my thing.”

What you need to know about how Depp made his money—and how he wasted it—is provided below.

Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean
Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, the actor is believed to have banked US$300 million for appearing in the franchise.

He made much money in Hollywood, including $68 million from only one movie.

Since making his acting debut in the 1984 horror movie Nightmare on Elm Street and becoming an overnight sensation in Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands, Depp has gone a long way. He was paid US$45,000 for each episode of the show 21 Jump Street when he was a teen star in 1987; since the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, his base salary for films has been closer to US$20 million.

According to the UK’s Telegraph newspaper, he reportedly made USD 300 million for his roles in all Pirates of the Caribbean films. He received USD 68 million for his portrayal as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. He just filmed one scene for Fantastic Beasts in 2020 but received US$16 million.

And while Disney’s Pirates movie series may have earned US$4.5 billion worldwide, some of Depp’s other movies haven’t done quite as well; for example, The Rum Diaries film, where he first met Amber Heard, cost US$45 million to produce, but only US$24 million collected at international box offices.

Forbes also named Depp the most overpaid actor in Hollywood in 2016 after calculating that his earnings from the box office were only worth $2.80 for every dollar he received.

However, he has also criticized his financial firm for poor management.

Joel and Rob Mandel from TMG Group

Depp has charged The Management Group (TMG) employees who handled his money improperly with mismanaging his business. The US$25 million complaint alleges that the company borrowed US$10 million from third parties without his consent and accepted an unauthorized US$28 million contingent fee. The celebrity alleges that TMG failed to maintain accurate financial records and timely tax filings for his account.

TMG filed a countersuit, and Johnny Depp settled for an undisclosed sum in 2018. Depp awarded Heard $7 million in their divorce settlement, which she promised to contribute to charitable organizations. He filed a defamation lawsuit against British tabloid The Sun in 2020, but he lost and was forced to pay the newspaper’s legal costs of US$840,000.

He formerly spent US$2 million a month on his luxurious lifestyle.

According to TMG, who handled Depp’s finances between 1999 and 2016, the actor blew his fortune by spending US$2 million per month on his lavish lifestyle.

Depp was labeled “a star in crisis” by The Hollywood Reporter in 2017 for spending a large portion of the US$650 million he had made over the previous 13 years. Depp’s excessive spending, which included more than $5 million to purchase 3 islands in the Bahamas, earned him the label “out of control star.”

According to his tax returns, Depp spent US$30,000 a month on wine and US$300,000 a month on 40 full-time employees, totaling US$3.6 million annually.
“It’s insulting to say that I spent US$30,000 on wine, because it was far more.” Depp told Rolling Stone in 2018.

According to the countersuit, he allegedly spent US$75 million on purchasing and furnishing 14 houses, US$18 million on buying and modifying a 150-foot yacht, and US$3 million on firing the ashes of his literary hero Hunter S. Thompson from a cannon. Later, the celebrity clarified that it was actually closer to USD 5 million.

Depp allegedly spent $100,000 a month on an addiction counselor and $200,000 on private jet flights, according to claims made by his former money manager. He reportedly paid US$10,000 per day (US$1.8 million annually) for security and a sound engineer US$100,000 per year to give him his lines on set. The artist’s stardom has also set him back a tiny amount. According to reports, he paid $565,00 for three Leonor Fini paintings to an art gallery in New York City.

He showered his ex-girlfriends with costly gifts.

According to reports, the actor lavishly spent money on gifts for Heard, including a $150,000 Ford Mustang and a $155,000 Ernest Hemingway‘s Limited Edition book.

With his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, Depp has two kids. He didn’t wed the French actress and singer, but he did promise to help her financially after their separation; the amount of the payments is unknown. He also provided her a house for US$4.5 million.

Depp’s former money manager has refuted the actor’s assertion that he has donated a significant portion of his income to charity, despite Depp being generous in his personal connections.
“I don’t recall writing large charity checks,” Joel Mandel said in his January deposition. “It was more his style to show up at an event or lend his name [to] something rather than write a check.”

Current Net Worth of Johnny Depp is $150 Million
